Inside the Festival

For me, this Carnival Season was probably the most special Carnival ever.
In 2017, I restarted my event company eeempire.com and hosted my first ever Carnival Fete this season.
In addition to my own personal ventures, two of my clients, Candy Coated Events and Kairi People added new events to their Carnival roster. This was compounded by this being the shortest season in a few years.
Nevertheless, I survived – but barely. After Carnival Tuesday due to a series of mishaps, one of my cameras ended up in Tribe’s lost and found and not in my camera bag. Two weeks ago, I got the camera back and began working on my Carnival video.
With my ambition of releasing my video the week after Carnival trashed; I struggled to find motivation and inspiration. I decided to edit my client’s videos first instead – seeing them enjoy my edits motivated me to put together this video.
I deliberately chose not to shoot for a section or work for a specific band. I wanted my video to be as authentic as possible – a true representation of what you will see if you walk the streets of Trinidad on Carnival Tuesday.
I was happy to capture multiple elements of Carnival, including Monday night mas by ROUGE Carnival and TRIBE’s Last Lap. Both hidden gems of our Carnival experience – if you have the stamina you can truly party from sun up to sun down in this land of oil and music!
Enjoy my Carnival experience and follow me as I take you on a journey to 4 other Carnivals in the Caribbean and blog about how these compare to the Trinidadian “Greatest Show on Earth”. As a bonus for reading this far, see a Director’s cut of my video below:
